ICC has issued a statement calling on governments to strengthen the landmark Global Methane Pledge at COP28.
While businesses across the ICC network are firmly committed to reducing methane emissions, it is increasingly apparent that clear policy signals from governments are urgently needed to scale-up mitigation efforts in line with the prevailing climate science.
In this context, the statement proposes five targeted measures to strengthen the Global Methane Pledge two years on from its launch – with a central focus on enhancing the transparency and accountability of national methane mitigation plans.
The recommendations were delivered – on behalf of the global business community – ahead of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) taking place in Dubai from 30 November to 12 December 2023.
