ICC and the Chamber of Commerce and Production of Santo Domingo (CCPSD) have established an ICC Centre of Entrepreneurship in the Dominican Republic, aiming to promote the participation of small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in international trade.
The launch in Santo Domingo responds to the CCPSD’s ambition to promote activities that contribute to the Dominican Republic’s business growth. This brings the total number of ICC Centre of Entrepreneurship worldwide to fifteen, since first launching in Istanbul in 2020.
A launch event in Santo Domingo today was attended by the Vice President of the Dominican Republic Ms. Raquel Peña Rodríguez. The ceremony was led by ICC Secretary General John W.H. Denton AO, CCPSD Second Vice-President of the Board of Directors Anyerlene Bergés and CCPSD Executive Vice-President Antonio Ramos. It was also attended by Minister of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs Victor (Ito) Bisonó.
“We are excited to announce the expansion of our ICC Centre of Entrepreneurship network to now include the Dominican Republic. Together, with the Santo Domingo Chamber of Commerce, we aim to ignite greater global market participation among SMEs and pave the way for growth opportunities,”
said ICC Secretary General John W.H. Denton AO.
Stressing the importance of SMEs in the Dominican Republic economy, especially in key sectors such as tourism and services, Ms Bergés said that, initiatives like the Centre of Entrepreneurship, would enable specific programmes to be put in place to support their expansion internationally. This, she said, would allow them to diversify their sources of income, capitalise on new business opportunities.
“With this strategic alliance with ICC, the Chamber of Commerce will not only establish a network of opportunities for professionalisation and growth, but will also strengthen its capacity to provide comprehensive support to Dominican companies, facilitating their access to knowledge and connections for international trade,’’
Mr Ramos said.
Mr Ramos pointed to the CCPSD One Click programme as an easily accessible and structured repository of tools to help SMEs internationalise successfully.
