Experience

Ali Al Hashimi is the Managing Partner of Global Advocacy and Legal Counsel. One of the country’s most respected litigators, Ali has over 17 years’ experience of civil and commercial dispute resolution in the UAE.

Ali has a deep understanding of the financial markets and sectors in the Gulf region and how the interplay of global financial markets can affect business transactions in the UAE.

His extensive experience includes advising local, regional and international clients on a range of banking, Islamic finance, securities, construction, real estate and corporate matters.

Ali is licensed to appear before all Courts of the UAE, including the Federal Supreme Court and the DIFC Courts and possesses a superior knowledge of the civil, shari’ah and common law systems.

Professional memberships, publications and speaking engagements

Ali is regularly invited to speak as an expert at conferences and a contributor to panel discussions. He has published a number of articles and provides legal commentary and opinions in newspapers and magazines.

Ali is a member of the DFSA’s Financial Markets Tribunal, a member of the DIFCA Legislation Committee (LegCo) and a former member of the DIFC and Court Users Committees.

Patric Mc Gonigal

Partner – Head of Arbitration and Common Law

Patric is a dual qualified barrister (Ireland, non-practising) and solicitor (England & Wales), experienced in a broad range of commercial, international trade, energy, construction & 
infrastructure, anti-bribery & corruption, shipping & insurance disputes.

He has genuine multi-jurisdictional and multi-cultural experience, having practiced in London for over a decade and over sixteen years in most of the key arbitral jurisdictions in Asia (Shanghai, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Tokyo). He relocated to the UAE in 2022 but first worked here in 2000 when he was involved in the Glencore v Metro Trading International dispute concerning the alleged misappropriation of oil from four offshore floating storage/blending vessels off Fujairah.

Patric is a CIArb Fellow and has extensive experience of conducting arbitrations before the LCIA, ICC, SIAC, JCAA, HKIAC, CIETAC, LMAA, FOSFA & GAFTA as well as having handled numerous reported cases in the London Commercial Court and English Court of Appeal. Patric is currently advising on several international trade and infrastructure matters before the Dubai international Arbitration Centre (DIAC), the ‘offshore’ courts of the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) and the Abu Dhabi Global Markets (ADGM).  He also sits on the arbitrator panels for the SCCA in Saudi, the JCAA in Japan, the SCIA and QDAC in China as well as the European Commission’s EU Trade Disputes panel.  Patric is a member of the SIAC Middle East Regional Users’ Committee as well as several international mediator panels.

Prior to joining Global, Patric was a partner at a number of leading international law firms (including BLG (now Clyde & Co), Hogan Lovells and King & Wood Mallesons) where he led their regional cross border arbitration practices and was ranked as a leading individual by the various legal directories.
