The ICC Institute of World Business Law has announced the addition of eight members to the Institute Council. The Institute is ICC’s visionary think-tank conducting research and training and providing insight for the legal profession to drive understanding and development of international business law.
Comprising 50 eminent lawyers, the governing body shapes the ICC Institute’s strategy, policy and programme of activities in line with ICC’s mission to make business work for everyone, every day, everywhere.
The new members are:
Jose Antonio Moreno Rodriguez – Specialised in international trade issues and arbitration, Jose Antonio Moreno Rodriguez is a Harvard LL.M. ’93 Doctor in Law, member of the ICC International Court of arbitration, centre member of the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) of The Hague since 2020, and active arbitrator before the mechanism; and also a Member of Annulment Committees at the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID).
Andrea Hulbert – Arbitration practitioner, an expert in complex commercial and civil disputes, President of the ICC Costa Rica Commission on Arbitration and ADR; member of the ICC Institute of World Business Law since 2016. Ms Hulbert has participated in numerous international arbitrations under ICC, UNCITRAL, and ICDR rules. She is also one of the most designated women arbitrators in Costa Rica, a member of and recognised by several institutions as a national leader in dispute resolution. Recently awarded as Exceptional Women of Excellence by the Women Economic Forum.
Kim Sae Youn – Specialised in construction and merger and acquisition contracts Ms Kim practices primarily in the areas of international litigation and arbitration with an emphasis on commercial and international law. Her expertise in international dispute resolution has been recognised in the variety of roles she holds and has held in various institutions, including but not limited to an Alternate member of the ICC Court, Commissioner of the Korea Trade Commission, a Vice-Chair of the Arbitration Committee of the International Bar Association, a Co-Chair of the Dispute Resolution and Arbitration Committee of the Inter-Pacific Bar Association.
Tan Chuan Thye – Specialised in the energy sector in Singapore, Mr Tan is an Oxford graduate and Senior Counsel of the Supreme Court of Singapore and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. His practice (since 1993) as counsel has covered commercial, corporate, financial and infrastructure matters. Mr Tan appears regularly in international arbitrations as well as court proceedings. His practice has a wide geographical scope and he represents a range of international and domestic entities.
Laurence Shore – An arbitration practitioner, practicing law in London, New York City, and Washington, D.C., before joining Bonelli Erede in Milan as head of the firm’s international arbitration department, Laurence Shore sits as an arbitrator in addition to his counsel practice. Mr Shore has been a tribunal member or lead advocate in cases under the LCIA, ICSID, AAA, ICDR, ICC, CRCICA, UNCITRAL, SIAC, HKIAC, Swiss Chambers, LMAA, and Society of Maritime Arbitrators’ Rules, involving a wide array of industry sectors (e.g., energy; fossil fuels; renewables;) construction, engineering, intellectual property, telecommunications, biomedicine, banking and shipping).
Lisa Miller – Specialised in compliance and sanctions, Lisa is a mediator and arbitrator and reference judge, resolving conflicts in civil and family law cases through mediation, serving as a sole and swing arbitrator in civil disputes. Ms Miller provides guidance to sanctioned parties on the establishment of appropriate integrity compliance measures and assesses such measures. She advises on compliance conditions and terms in negotiated resolution agreements; develops integrity compliance-related resources; and engages in World Bank Group sanctions, integrity due diligence, and integrity risk management initiatives.
Tolga Ayoglu– A distinguished academic; LL.M., Ph.D., and Professor in Commercial Law at Galatasaray University where he served in several roles as Head of the Commercial Law Department, Vice-Chair, and Dean of the Faculty of Law. Acted as arbitrator, counsel, consultant, or legal expert in various litigation and arbitration proceedings with international and domestic character. His fields of expertise include International Commercial Law, International Contracts Law, Corporate Law and mergers and acquisitions, Banking, Finance and Securities Law and Intellectual Property Law.
Wairimu Karanja – Specialised in energy, climate and corporate law, Chief Legal Officer and Partner at Persistent and based in Nairobi. She is an international lawyer qualified in Kenya, with 12 years of legal experience. Past Fellow of the Energy Charter Secretariat, Brussels, and the Forum for China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Legal Secondment. Ms Wairimu has advised private sector and development organisations on various projects in Africa relating to renewable energy and climate change policy; power project development and financing; private equity; mergers and acquisitions; international arbitration; immigration and employment; intellectual property; and technology.
